No stunt kite flying today

kite review and kite flying

It was our hope to head to the park, loft up a handful of kites, secure them and then fly the stunt kites.  Wind today was fickle, strong for a few minutes, almost nothing the next, not exactly the best for kite flying!

Suspecting all along the wind was not going to be our friend, we took several new kites, including two unique shaped parafoils and small delta to experiment with. We also took a 65 foot tubular tail to play with.    For the new parafoils, we had one in the shape of a dolphin and the other in the shape of an octopus.  Here they are.

Here is the 65 foot tail we experimented with as laundry.   Note, it is pulled by our standby, trusty 6 ft delta.

All in all, it was a good day of kite flying.  We did hope for more of an active day, with the stunt kites, but we’ll take what we can get!

As with all outdoor flyers, a good understanding of the Beaufort Wind Scale is handy.  Here is a simple video that helps to explain it.
