If It Can Fly Behind The Scenes…Just another Park Flyers Fanatic

Behind The Scenes

What is the motivation behind If It Can Fly? Simple really, find a way to share everything related to flying hobbies, in one place! Many decades ago, a young boy was lucky to grow up with a father who made his living as an aeronautical engineer for Boeing, Lockheed, Bell Helicopter and NASA. This allowed him to experience everything imaginable in the flying hobby world, including kite flying, control line, model rockets, free flight and remote control airplanes / helicopters. A Park Flyers Duo is a great way of describing this young man and his father! Kite Flying, Control Line, Model Rockets and the occasional Free Flight model was their hobby flyer of choice.

What a privilege to grow up around the flying community and such diversity in the community. It was only as a young adult that such a moment of clarity / light bulb realization that folks had to pay to go see airshows and play around cool aircraft of all sorts! Yes, it was normal to get to watch the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds practice first hand not to mention meeting many astronauts and watching them jump in their T-38’s and head to the Cape for their next mission. Spoiled is an understatement!

Fast forward to the present and questions like ‘what happens after retirement?‘ begin to pop up in conscious thoughts rather than ‘what is the next career move‘ and, well, here we are! Retirement is still a few years out, but not many, and Empty Nest Syndrome is in full swing, so the thought is, build a community around your favorite hobby and see where it goes.

You can put me in the park flyers category and can find me in a local park often, enjoying pushing something into the air! However, more often than not, my flying location of choice is on the beaches of South Padre Island where I enjoy pushing up Single Line Kites, Two-Line Stunt and Quad-Line Stunt Kites. Of course, being in the area, it makes it easy to scratch my Space itch and watch SpaceX make history!

So, in the Spring and Summer months, I share my flying hobbies as the opportunities present themselves. During the Fall and Winter months, I spend my time designing and building. I’ve particularly become fascinated with the Indoor Free Flight models and enjoy designing them in the cold months for sure!

The hope is to both share this hobby with other like minded flying enthusiasts, and to also introduce it to a younger generation, encouraging them to Fly everything they can!
