The beautiful, majestic purple martin is by far the most enjoyable bird to watch! Here at If It Can Fly, watching and attracting these birds is just one of the side hobbies we have, while enjoying anything and everything in the Flying Hobbies.
The Purple Martin, a member of the sparrow family, it a must see. Watching it fly high above while feeding, or swooping in via their natural, predefined glide path to their nest area is just incredible.
They are very talented songbirds and enjoy a large vocabulary of chirps as they communicate with each other. Often heard before seen, its a joy to look up and see them!
Activity here in the North Texas area begins around the first of March and ends near the the beginning of September. In between, we will see early arrival to full arrival, followed by a getting comfortable with the new area. Then, all that comes with increasing the population, from pairing up, nesting, laying eggs, feeding the young, first flights and then off they go, back to South America! Its non-stop for these 5+ months and hits a fever pitch just they fly off!
If you are not in this hobby and have the space to commit, then jump in. It is so enjoyable.
