F4U Corsair RC Plane

The F4U Corsair RC Plane

Every Remote Control Airplane Enthusiast either owns an F4U Corsair RC Plane, or wants to! There is no doubt this beautiful war bird will look good in any models collection and more importantly, in the air! This page is dedicated to this model only and hopefully brings useful information and sources to help the beginner to advanced model flyer.

Classification and Experience Level

First things first, the F4U model falls into the high level classification of a low-wing sport airplane. This means it is more difficult to fly than a high wing model. It will fly faster and be less stable. The model is also more difficult to steer on the ground because it is a tail-dragger type. So:

  • Classification = Intermediate to Advanced Low Wing Sport
  • Experience Level = Experienced Flyer

This model should not be your first model, nor should it be used to learn how to fly. To maximize the enjoyment, it should be flown by experienced flyers.

Ready to Fly or Almost Ready to Fly Kits

Below are a couple of links to kits which fall into the Ready to Fly, or Almost Ready to Fly Categories. This list is just a starting point. Follow the links to the respective suppliers or expand your search to see other options.

F4U Corsair RC Plane Build Kits from Major Suppliers

It certainly continues to get more difficult to find full build kits as the trend has gone to foam ready to fly models. Here is a large kit, from Top Flite.

Kits from Specialty Suppliers

The good news, there is a wealth of Specialty Kits available, mostly in the form of Short Kits. A Short Kit simply means the parts with complex shapes are pre-cut, via laser typically, and the builder/hobbyist supplies the stock parts (sheeting, sticks, etc) at the time of the build. Because most Short Kits are cut at the time of order, you can expect a longer lead time .
