A Discus Launch Glider brings together the excitement of RC Aircraft and RC Gliders with the thrill of hand launch! These rc sailplanes have to be light enough to float like a typical glider, yet strong enough to sustain the load placed on it at initial launch.
Similar to discovering the spineless two-line stunt kites and the entire world of Indoor Free Flight (a must watch is www.floatdocumentary.com), the discus launch glider grabbed our fascination and we haven’t let go!
The thought that an rc airplane can withstand the torque forces to be launched like a track and field discus, from the tip of the wing, should make everyone in this hobby ask the question: “how do they do that?”. Strength, Light Weight and Flexible is the answer! It is crazy! A Discus Launch Glider is beyond crazy!
We dipped our toe into this discus launch glider world with a simple and inexpensive flyer called the Raven 990. Read about the initial findings here. Here is a gorgeous photo of it in flight!
